Princeton Man Pleads Guilty in DUI Motorcycle Crash that Killed Infant Son in 2021

A Princeton man indicted last month for a fatal motorcycle accident that killed his infant son was arraigned Tuesday in Caldwell County Circuit Court.

Joseph Traylor faces charges of murder, reckless driving, and DUI in the death of his 15-month-old son, Terry Desmond Traylor, on July 5.

Traylor, along with his public defender Mary Rohrer, pleaded not guilty before Judge Jamus Redd. Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins filed a motion Monday to transfer blood samples, which was approved after Rohrer raised no objections.

According to Princeton Police, Traylor was driving a motorcycle the wrong way on a one-way street with his child strapped to his chest. He attempted a wheelie, lost control, and crashed into a telephone pole on Beverly Lane.

Both were taken to Caldwell Medical Center, where the child was pronounced dead. Traylor was later flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. After his release, he was arrested and is now in the Caldwell County Jail.

A pretrial conference is set for 9:00 a.m. on December 3.

Man Arrested After Hours-Long Standoff in Farmington

On Tuesday, 37-year-old Anthony L. Turner was arrested after a standoff with law enforcement at a residence on Farmington Street in Graves County. Deputies arrived around 11 a.m. to serve a felony warrant for Turner, who was wanted on charges including meth trafficking and illegal possession of firearms. Turner refused to surrender, claiming he was armed and threatening to use a firearm.

Law enforcement established a perimeter around the home to prevent Turner from escaping, and negotiators from both the Graves and McCracken County Sheriff’s Offices engaged in hours-long talks with him. Turner eventually surrendered at 3:20 p.m. without incident, and no injuries were reported.

Turner was taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for evaluation before being transported to an out-of-county detention facility. In addition to the charges from his warrant, he was charged with resisting arrest and criminal trespass, as he had occupied the home without the owner’s permission. Local schools were notified of the situation as a precaution. The McCracken County SWAT and Negotiator Teams assisted in bringing the standoff to a peaceful resolution.

The Agenda

Paducah to Begin Broadway Block Rehabilitation Project

Starting Monday, October 7, contractors will begin work on rehabilitating the parking area on the Broadway side of a downtown Paducah block, bordered by Second Street, Broadway, Water Street, and Jefferson. This project follows recent improvements to the central portion of the block, which added green space, a public promenade, and enhanced parking.

The current parking surface will be removed and replaced, with grading to align with the updated central section. While this part of the lot will be closed during construction, the central parking area and on-street parking will remain open. The project is expected to be completed before Thanksgiving to minimize disruption for local businesses during the holiday season.

Mayor George Bray emphasized the city's commitment to improving downtown infrastructure and ensuring a smoother, safer space for both vehicles and pedestrians. Accessible parking will also be moved closer to businesses as part of the updates. Future plans for the Jefferson Street side of the block are under review, with input from local businesses and the community is being sought.

Leaf Them Be: Why You Don't Have To Rake Your Leaves

Fall has arrived, and soon the hum of leaf blowers and the swinging of rakes will commence. But before you rush to clear your yard, consider taking a more laid-back approach and leave those leaves where they fall—you might be doing your yard (and the environment) a favor.

🍂 Why Should You Leave the Leaves?

According to experts, fallen leaves can offer several benefits to your garden and the creatures living in it. They break down over the winter, enriching your soil with valuable nutrients and creating a natural compost that prepares your yard for spring growth. Additionally, they serve as a cozy blanket for plant roots, shielding them from harsh winter winds and frost, especially for perennials.

🍂 A Haven for Wildlife

Leaving leaves also means providing shelter for many insects and wildlife during the colder months. Bumblebees, butterflies, and caterpillars, like the wooly bear and luna moth, take refuge beneath the leaf cover, along with countless other beneficial insects. By leaving some leaves on the ground, you’re supporting local ecosystems by giving these critters a place to hibernate and thrive.

🍂 When Should You Rake?

Of course, it’s all about balance. If your lawn is only partially covered in leaves (around 20% or less), you can let them decompose naturally. If about half of your yard is covered, consider mowing over them to break the leaves into smaller pieces. This will allow them to settle between the grass blades and provide nutrients without smothering the grass.

However, if your yard is covered in a thick layer of leaves, it might be time to grab the rake. Too many leaves can mat down the grass and block sunlight, causing damage to your lawn. In these cases, removing some of the excess will help keep everything healthy.

🍂 What To Do With the Leaves You Rake?

If you do end up raking, don’t just bag them up for waste collection. Instead, consider composting the leaves or using them as mulch to protect your garden through the winter. They work just as well as wood mulch, helping to retain moisture and suppress weeds when spring rolls around.

Or, you can do what any right-minded American would do and simply pile them up and relive the childhood joy of jumping into a soft, crunchy pile—because who doesn’t love a good leaf pile cannonball?
