Metropolis Man and Mother Arrested Following Domestic Violence Incident
A domestic disturbance in Metropolis over the weekend led to the arrest of a local man and his mother after an altercation escalated at a residence in the 600 block of East 7th Street.
According to Metropolis Police, officers responded on October 26 to a report of domestic violence. Upon arrival, the victim stated that Sidney Adams, 27, had left the scene but had been intoxicated, playing loud music in the driveway, and later had an altercation with her. When the victim went to check on him, she found Adams with another woman, at which point he allegedly exited the vehicle and pushed her to the ground, witnessed by her children from the porch.
The victim reportedly took her children inside and locked the door, but Adams allegedly forced his way into the house, shoving the victim, throwing a chair, and breaking the front door glass before fleeing. Officers later located Adams at his parents’ home. During the arrest, Adams resisted, leading police to use a taser to bring him into custody.
Police say Adams’ mother, Sheila Adams, 59, attempted to interfere with her son’s arrest, resulting in her own charges of obstructing justice and resisting arrest. Sidney Adams was transported to the Massac County Detention Center on charges of domestic battery and resisting arrest. Sheila Adams was released on a notice to appear.
Groundbreaking Set for $20 Million Crittenden County Judicial Center
The Crittenden County Judicial Center will break ground at 1 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 107 S. Main St. in Marion. Authorized by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2020, the $20 million project will create a two-story, 20,040-square-foot facility to house all court services, with construction scheduled for completion in fall 2026.
The center will feature upgraded technology and heightened security, including a single-entry point with magnetometers. Chief Justice Laurance B. VanMeter commended local officials for their support, emphasizing the center’s role in enhancing efficiency and safety for the community.
Designed by Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects, with Pinnacle as the general contractor, the project is supported by Compass Municipal Advisors. Chief Justice VanMeter and Crittenden County Judge-Executive Perry Newcom will join other officials at the ceremony.
The Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts manages new judicial facility projects in partnership with local stakeholders to ensure that new structures meet the needs of the community and the court system.
