Graves County Man Arrested on Multiple Child Sexual Abuse Charges
A Graves County man wanted on multiple charges of child sexual abuse was apprehended in Mayfield on Wednesday following weeks of evading law enforcement.
William Seth Clark, 33, had been hiding from authorities at several locations, according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives conducting surveillance on a residence in the 300 block of East College Street located Clark and arrested him after confirming he was there.
Clark faces seven counts of 1st-degree sexual abuse involving a victim under 12 years old. Additional charges include distributing obscene material to minors, violating a Kentucky emergency protective order, and possession of methamphetamine.
After his arrest, Clark was taken to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office and later transferred to an out-of-county detention center. The Mayfield Police Department assisted in the arrest.
Graves County Sheriff Warns of Vehicle Scams on Facebook Marketplace
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office has reported an increase in local residents falling victim to vehicle scams after purchasing cars through Facebook Marketplace. According to Sheriff Jon Hayden, buyers are traveling out of state to meet sellers, transferring funds, and returning to find the vehicle titles are fake and the cars are stolen.
In recent cases, vehicles were purchased in Memphis, Missouri, and Texas. Sellers often arrange to meet in parking lots without video surveillance and present false identification. Some vehicles also have altered VIN tags.
Sheriff Hayden advises buyers to thoroughly research the vehicle before purchasing and to use services like CarFax. The sheriff’s office can assist in verifying VIN numbers and encourages buyers to use the Internet Sales Parking Spot at the sheriff’s office for safe transactions.
Buyers should be cautious of deals where the seller refuses to meet at a police station. A legitimate seller will have no problem with such arrangements.
Kentucky Attorney General Joins Call for Columbia University to Resist Divestment from Israel
KY Attorney General Russell Coleman
Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman, along with attorneys general from 24 other states, has urged Columbia University to reject calls for divestment from Israel. The coalition of attorneys generals sent a letter to Columbia University’s interim president, expressing concern over rising antisemitic sentiment on campus and commending the university for previously resisting demands to cut financial ties with Israel.
Attorney General Coleman stated, “Antisemitic and terrorist-aligned groups will find no safe harbor on our campuses or anywhere else in this country. Our Commonwealth and our nation will continue standing strong with our ally, Israel, against this evil.”
The letter references ongoing pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia, where demonstrators have established encampments and staged occupation-style protests, demanding the university divest from Israel. Although the university has resisted such demands, the protests have continued, and the letter warns of escalating rhetoric from groups supporting violent resistance.
One particularly troubling incident highlighted in the letter involved Columbia University Apartheid Divest, a group that revoked an apology after one of its members stated the university was "lucky" he wasn’t killing Zionists. The group also praised violent attacks against Israeli civilians and called for continued "armed resistance."
The attorneys general point to Columbia’s earlier decision not to divest from Israel as the right stance and warned that yielding to such pressure could have legal ramifications. Many states, including Kentucky, have laws prohibiting government entities from doing business with organizations that discriminate against Israel or its partners. A similar letter to Brown University earlier this year led to that institution’s governing board rejecting a divestment proposal.
As antisemitic incidents on college campuses across the U.S. have increased since the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, the attorneys general are encouraging Columbia to continue standing firm against divestment calls and uphold its commitment to balanced and fair decision-making.
